What to Expect – Whistler Summer 2022
Whistler’s favorites are back for summer 2022, and we couldn’t be happier. After two years of modified summers, we are delighted to announce that summer 2022 in Whistler is shaping up to be refreshingly normal.
From perennial favorite festivals to mountain top marvels, all across Whistler, there is a lot to get excited about this summer. We’ve collected everything you need to know about visiting this summer.
Festival Favourites Return
Whistler is world renowned for its packed schedule of unmissable events. Clear some room in your calendar; here are some events you won’t want to miss this summer.
Camp Fairmont Summer Kickoff
Start the summer off right! Join us July 1-4 for four days of adventure, activities and a whole lot of family-friendly fun at Camp Fairmont. All events are complimentary and exclusive to registered guests of Fairmont Chateau Whistler.
Summer Concert Series
If there is a better backdrop for a concert than Olympic Plaza at sunset, I challenge you to find it. Whistler’s weekly concert series will be returning for mountainside music this summer. While this year’s lineup has yet to be announced, with past artists including Barenaked Ladies, Matt Mays and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, this year is sure to include many more favourites.
Crankworx
Crankworx is an all-out celebration of mountain biking culture from August 5th – 14th. You can test your skills by competing or simply come and marvel from the sidelines. The Redbull Joyride event is a local highlight of the summer that you won’t want to miss.
Redbull 400
Have you ever been watching Olympic ski jumping and thought to yourself, “I wonder what it would be like to race up that hill?”. Well, believe it or not, this race actually exists in Whistler.
Sign up and challenge yourself to summit all 400 M of Whistler’s Nordic ski jump. It’s technically a race, but most people are just happy to finish.
LOCAL TIP
Joining one of our complimentary yoga classes, or a session with an onsite Lululemon mirror is a great way to rest and recover. You can view our current schedule here.
Farmers Market
While it’s not quite a festival, we can’t help but get excited that the Whistler Farmer’s Market is returning to the Upper Village. Every Sunday starting May 22, 2022, you can stroll right out our doors to pick up some locally made treasures and treats.
Whistler Blackcomb Returns to Normal Summer Operations
When the snow melts from Whistler’s slopes, the mountains are transformed into a summer playground for sightseers, hikers and bikers. Far beyond beautiful views (and you’ll get plenty of that), here are some of the on mountain offerings you can explore this summer.
Cloudraker Suspension Bridge
Not for the faint of heart, this breathtaking suspension bridge on the peak of Whistler Mountain returns in 2022. The bridge itself is constructed with sturdy metal panels and has minimal sway, so it’s worth conquering your fears to explore this Whistler wonder.
Raven’s Eye Lookout
Just across the Cloudraker Suspension Bridge is the land based Raven’s Eye Lookout. Boasting cantilevered views over Whistler valley, it’s a great place to snap a mountain-top shot.
LOCAL TIP
The suspension bridge and lookout are best enjoyed as part of a hiking loop. From the lookout continue on the High Note trail for even more spectacular views of Cheakamus Lake.
Snow Walls
It can feel unbelievable, but every winter, meters of snow accumulates on our mountain peaks. Each spring, an access road is cut from the Roundhouse Lodge to the Peak Chair. The result is a canyon of snow that you can explore. The snow walls typically open in early June, but they quickly melt in the summer sun, so don’t delay if this is on your summer bucket list.
Alpine Hiking
Whistler and Blackcomb are home to km’s of lift accessed alpine trails. From family friendly walks to Harmony Lake to full-day challenges like High Note Trail, there is something for everyone to explore.
The trails constantly change over the summer season as wildflowers emerge and skies shift, so each hike brings something special to your visit.
LOCAL TIP
Not sure where to go? Our Whistler Experience Guides offer complimentary mountain introductions. They will show you the best hikes to explore for your ability level and offer plenty of Whistler knowledge along the way.
Mountain Top Summer Feasts
Hiking is hungry work. Your trailside Portobello lunch will keep you fueled all day, but by dinner time your stomach is sure to be grumbling.
Take your dinner to another level (literally) with the Roundhouse’s Mountain Top Summer Feast. Every weekend you can savour sunset dining with a side of alpine sunset views. Be sure to book early; this summer favourite is one you won’t want to miss.
Ascent Trail
Are you ready to feel the burn? Step our mountainside doors, and you can embark on a hike from the valley base to the Rendezvous Lodge.
Divided into three distinct sections – Little Burn, Big Burn and Heart Burn – these three trails span 6.2 km of scenic singletrack. Don’t fret if you’re not ready to tackle the full climb; you also have the option of downloading from halfway via the Blackcomb Gondola.
