Fairmont Chateau Whistler Appoints New General Manager
WHISTLER, BC – January 11, 2024 – Fairmont Chateau Whistler is delighted to announce the appointment of Ken Hall as General Manager, effective January 15, 2024. Hall rejoins Fairmont’s western mountain collection of iconic Canadian resorts from his most recent five-year tenure as general manager of Quebec City’s legendary Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.
Ken’s illustrious 33 years with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has included hotel manager postings at Fairmont Chicago – Millennium Park, and Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montreal. He is no stranger to the Canadian Rockies, having fostered his hospitality career at historic Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge from 1991 – 1998, and returning as general manager from 2015 – 2018.
Under his leadership, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac was named Global Hotel of the Year by the World Luxury Awards in 2022, and ranked among the top three Fairmont hotels in North America for guest experience. In his new capacity, Hall is dedicated to maintaining and enhancing product and service excellence, with plans for a renovation of the hotel’s restaurants and expansion of its terrace. In addition, Hall aims to cultivate new markets and develop unique experiences for visitors outside of the golf and ski seasons.
Western Canada has always held a special place in Hall’s heart and he is enthusiastic about his return to the mountains. “I am so excited to start my new role and continue the great work that has been achieved by Norm Mastalir and the exceptional team at Fairmont Chateau Whistler,” says Ken. “The hotel’s recognition as one of Canada’s top resorts is a testament to their efforts, and I look forward to building on this success by enhancing guest experiences and showcasing the ‘Best in the West’. This will certainly be an epic adventure!”
Hall will assume the general manager position following Norm Mastalir’s retirement. Mastalir joined the resort as managing director in 2011, and led the team through the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the recent $35M CAD renovation to the hotel’s guestrooms, suites, and next level luxury Fairmont Gold experience.
